Die Gesellschaft der Gegenwart ist eingerahmt durch multiple Krisen – lokal, wie global. Ob Corona-Pandemie, Umweltzerstörung, das sich wandelne Klima mit Hotspots in Europa, Asien, Ostafrika. Politische Eruptionen wie in Afghanistan, Iran, oder Amerika. Hinzu kommt der sogenannte Aufstieg von rechtem, rechtspopulistischem und rechtsextremen Protest in Deutschland, Europa und global. Alle diese Krisen und Konflikte werden von Protest begleitet, der immer das Potenzial in sich trägt, sich zu sozialen Bewegungen zu formieren. Dabei zeichnen sich die lokalen und globalen Protestgeschehen und Ereignisse durch unterschiedliche soziale Lagen aus, die wiederum unterschiedliche Auswirkungen auf die Gesellschaften und sozialen, wie kulturellen Umwelten zeigen und die von unterschiedlicher Dauer sind. Vor diesem Hintergrund möchten wir die diesjährige Jahrestagung nutzen, um miteinander ins Gespräch zu kommen, zu differenzieren und um Perspektiven zu diskutieren. Dafür laden wir Euch herzlich ein euch aktiv an der diesjährigen Jahrestagung zu beteiligen. Inhaltlich stehen „Aktuelle Entwicklungen in der Protest- und Bewegungsforschung“ im Fokus, sodass insbesondere empirische, aber auch theoretische oder methodische Arbeiten präsentiert und diskutiert werden können. Themenschwerpunkte und Panel-Ideen können sich mit aktuellen politischen Eruptionen oder methodischen Entwicklungen innerhalb der Protest- und Bewegungsforschung befassen. Beispielsweise: sozialstrukturelle Perspektiven auf Protest und soziale Bewegungen, (Anti-)Gender-Movements, rechte und linke Proteste, Sozial- und sozialpolitische Proteste, Proteste gegen repressive Regime (z.B. Iran), Klima- und Umweltbewegungen.

Die Jahrestagung des ipb muss in diesem Jahr online stattfinden. Anmeldungen sind ab sofort via email möglich: conference2024@protestinstitut.eu
Für die Konferenz wird ein kleiner Beitrag erhoben: 5€ für Personen ohne feste Stelle, 30€ für Personen mit fester Stelle. Bitte überweist den Beitrag (Selbsteinschätzung) bis zum 30.09.2024 (unter Angabe eures Namens und dem Zusatz „Jahrestagung 2024_guest“) auf das unten stehende Bankkonto:

Annual Conference 2024: Current Developments in the Field of Protest and Social Movement Studies

Contemporary Societies are marked by multiple crises – as local, as global. Whether we are thinking of the global corona-pandemic, environmental destruction all around the planet, the climate change with all it hot-spots around the world, similarly in Asia, east Africa or Europe. Political eruptions how we see it for example in Afghanistan, Iran/Iraq, or America. Furthermore there is the so called global uprising of the so-called right-wing, right-wing-populism, the far- or alt-right or right-wing-extremism in Germany, Europe and global. All this crises and conflicts unites that they are part of (mass) protest or social movements or accompanied by social protest and social movements. Characteristic for all this different local and global social movements and protest is, that it is shaped by social and cultural inequality as well as by different social stratifications and social dislocation. All this conflicts and crises have different impact on our current societies as well as protest and social movements, local and global. Against this background we would invite you warmly to apply to our annual conference in 2024. We would love to use the chance to get together, debate different perspectives on conflicts and crises, make things a bit more clearly and interconnect ideas, thoughts, projects, perspectives. The conference topic will be „current developments in the field of protest and social movement studies“. We would love to discuss empirical projects as well as theoretical framework that shape the field of protest and social movement studies. Your projects and thoughts could debate social-structural perspectives of left and right-wing protest and social movements, (anti-)gender-movements, (european) social politics and climate movements, protest in Iran or against repressive regimes at all.
The deadline for submitting abstracts is 15 June 2024. The suggestions (250 words, 5 keywords, as a PDF file) should contain a title and an email contact as well as, if necessary, suggestions and needs to lower the hurdles to participation in the event and sent to info[at]protestinstitut.eu

The ipb Annual Conference will take place as an online event. Registration is possible via e-mail: conference2024@protestinstitut.eu
The conference fee is 5€ for non-tenured participants, and 30€ for tenured participants (self-rating). To register for the conference, please transfer the conference fee until 30th of September 2024 with the declaration (Your Name + “Jahrestagung 2024_guest“) to the bank account below:
