Working Group on Environmental Protest and Resource Conflicts
The Working Group on Environmental Protest and Resource Conflicts aims to improve networking between different sub-disciplines that deal with conflicts over nature, land, and resources. In this regard, the discussion of both theoretical and methodological questions is a key focus. In addition, the working group seeks to contribute to greater visibility of this research area.
The topics of the working group are based on a broad understanding of conflict: from everyday resistance to open protest, to armed conflict and civil war. At the same time, it operates at the intersection of environmental issues, political ecology, and dynamics surrounding land and resources. Members of the working group engage with topics such as resource and land conflicts, climate-induced displacement and migration, environmental conditions and protest, land grabbing, green economy, and the conflict dynamics associated with these. Related topics (e.g., North-South discourse, the Post-2015 Agenda) are also part of the group’s exchange.
Since 2022, the working group has also been associated with the
Institute for Protest and Movement Research (ipb).
The current speakers for the working group consists of Anne Hennings (anne.hennings@rptu.de) and Jasper Finkeldey (jasper.finkeldey@politik.uni-halle.de).
We look forward to hearing from you!
